Step 2: Edit assignment settings

Canvas creates all Savvas items as Canvas Assignments because all Savvas items can be turned in and graded. Canvas no longer supports adding Savvas content as an External Tool Link.

In this tutorial we show you the best way to manage the settings for:

Important! Canvas allows you to set the Submission Attempts. You should always set the attempts to Unlimited. It is Savvas Realize that determines how many attempts a student has. To learn more click here.

Step by step instructions

Opening the Canvas assignment settings

To begin open the Canvas assignment you want to edit. Click on the Edit Assignment Settings.

How to set the grade settings

Scroll down to where you can see the Points, Assignment Group, and Display Grade as section of the assignment settings. Here you can change how Canvas will display grades in the Canvas gradebook.

In Savvas Realize all scores are in percent. Canvas will automatically convert the score from Savvas Realize to the grade display type you set for the assingment.

If you select points, you can set the max points for the assignment. Canvas will automatically convert the percent score from Savvas Realize to the point value you set here in Canvas.

For example, if you the student received an 80% in Savvas Realize and you set your assignment in Canvas to be out of 20 points, the student will get a grade of 16/20 in your Canvas gradebook.

Setting Due dates and availability

In Canvas you can set the assignment dates:

When Savvas creates the assignment in Savvas Realize it will use the available from date and the due date in Canvas as the the start date and due date.

The until date has no effect in Savvas Realize; once an assignment was started by a student it is visible to the student in Savvas Realize.

Setting Submission Attempts

You should always set the Allowed Attempts under Submission Attempts to Unlimited. Most Savvas assignments only allow the student one attempt even if you set the attempts to unlimited in Canvas.

There are some Savvas Realize practice and homework assessments that allow unlimited attempts. If you limit the number of attempts for these type of assessments in Canvas by setting the Submission Attempts , Canvas will reject the scores from Savvas Realize if the student exceeds the limit set in Canvas.

It is best just to leave the Submission Attempts set to Unlimited and let Savvas Realize manage the number of attempts allowed.
