Step 4: Add assignments
In this tutorial we show you how Savvas Realize automatically sends assignments to your Google Classroom class.
Pre-requisite: For this tutorial you must already have a Google Classroom imported or linked class in Savvas Realize.
Important: Savvas Realize is the system of record for assignment including:
Assignment name
Due date
Student grades
To change any of the above information in Google Classroom, you must make the changes in Savvas Realize. For instance, if you want to change the assignment due date, you must make the change in Savvas Realize, and it will then be synced to Google Classroom.
If you make changes in Google Classroom it can cause sync errors.
Do this before creating assignments
Before you add assignments to your Google Classroom connected class, make sure your students are rostered and their Google account is linked under the Students & Groups page in Savvas Realize.
If any students are missing or it indicates the student Needs to Connect then follow these directions: Step 3: Students launch in Realize to link their user account.
Add an assignment
To add an assignment, simply find the content you want to assign and click Assign. In the example below, the content was found in the table of contents of the Savvas program.
Create the assignment by filling in the start and due dates and then select your Google Classroom connected class.
Important: The Savvas Realize is the system of record for the assignment. If you add instructions in Google it is possible that Savvas Realize could overwrite those instructions. We recomend writing the instructions in Savvas Realize.
Alternatively, you can select individual students. If the same student is in multiple classes, be sure to choose the correct student and class combination as shown below.
New: Savvas Realize now allows you to create groups of students, making it easy for you to target specific assignments to individual student groups.
Once the assignment is created, you can navigate to your class and open the assingment. Here you can see the student that were assigned.
When you navigate to Google Classroom you will see the new assignment in your class Stream or under Classwork
You can see the students that were assigned by opening the assignment in Google Classroom.
How to add additional students to an assignment
Updated as of January 2024: For students who join after assignment creation you must either:
Add them directly to the assignment within Savvas Realize Savvas Realize.
OR, for maximum efficiency, add them to the assignment in Google Classroom. This seamless integration ensures they'll automatically be enrolled in Savvas Realize when they launch the assignment from Google Classroom.
To add an additional student(s) to the assignment, open the assignment menu and select Edit.
Select the student(s) you want to add to the assignment and select Save. Savvas Realize will automatically add the student to the assignment in Google Classroom.
